What type of oatmeal should I use for my natural mask?
Q. I have some Quaker Oats oatmeal. Would it be okay to use it for my mask, or should I buy some other kind of oatmeal??? BTW I'm a newbie with natural scrubs...

A. Quaker Oats is fine - should be the whole grain (the one that takes 5 min to cook), mixed with honey. Beauty Honey has the natural ability to attract and retain moisture and is an important factor in beauty products because of its ability to maintain softness, suppleness and elasticity. 1. Relax with a honey bath: Add 1/4 cup honey to your bath water for a fragrant, silky bath. 2. Keep your hair healthy with a Hair Shine: Stir 1 tsp. of honey into 4 cups of warm water. (Add lemon if desired.) After shampooing, pour the honey mixture through hair. Do not rinse. Dry as normal. 3. Hair Conditioner: Mix 1/2 cup honey with 1/4 cup olive oil. (For normal to oily hair, use only 2 tablespoons oil.) Using a small amount at a time, work mixture… [cont.]

Is oatmeal or oat bran healthier?
Q. In terms of hot cereal, what makes one better than the other? Any brand suggestions?

A. I like organic oatmeal from the bulk section at the health food store. I give oatmeal the edge over oat bran because it's got the whole oat involved, not some bit that's been processed off of a whole grain.

Can you eat oats in oatmeal without the water?
Q. I have Trader Joe's Maple & Brown Sugar Oatmeal that is cooked and just needs to add water in it. Can I eat the oats without adding the water, or put the oats in yogurt?

A. Sure, you can, but the texture of dry oats is really gross. Here are some suggestions for oatmeal fixed with boiled water like it should be: Add about a teaspoon of jelly (any flavor) or peanut butter, or a half of a smushed-up banana, or some canned peaches or pears or pineapple; you get the idea. It will change the taste of your oatmeal and you can have it different ways almost every day. Try it. Mares eat oats and does eat oats and little lambs eat ivy A kid'll eat ivy too, wouldn't you? (this is a song my mom used to sing to me when I was little) : )

do oats, oatmeal contain gluten?
Q. I found a good web page on gluten allergies and it listed all these grains but it didn't list oats or oatmeal - so I don't know if oats contain gluten or not? thanks
Asked by art_flood - Fri Jul 11 11:32:50 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Oats contain avenin, a protein which is similar to other gluten molecules found in other grains. Some folks who have celiac disease can tolerate avenin, some cannot. Most oats sold are cross contaminated with wheat, rye, or barley. As such, these oats are not safe for a gluten-free diet. There are brands of oats sold which are certified (and tested) gluten-free.

A. Quaker Oats real oatmeal with 1/2 a grapefruit. Most likely, the yogurt is processed to some degree and contains much more sugar. The oats are non-processed and a good source of food with very little sugar. Upon awakening your body is in a catabolic (muscle-burning) state, since your body needs protein every 3 hours to keep from using muscle mass as fuel for energy. I doubt you had a slow-digesting protein before sleeping, and if you did, it will be used up by the time you have awaken, and you need protein again. If you didn't, even more reason to consume protein upon awakening. Second, breakfast gives you energy for the day. Oat bran = Quaker oatmeal?
Q. A recipe I found calls for oat bran. Can I just use Quaker oatmeal or are oat bran and rolled oats completely different?
Asked by AriannaBabeey. - Tue Apr 21 23:01:11 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Regular Oatmeal should be a fine substitute, I wouldn't recommend using Quick Oats(fast-cooking oats) though. Oat Bran, Rolled Oats, Oatmeal These are steamed, rolled and flaked. Oat bran is the outer casing of the oat and is high in soluble fiber. They cook quickly (5-7 minutes) and are easily and quickly digested. Oat bran helps lower blood cholesterol levels because of their fiber content.

Q. Plain quaker oats oatmeal. One serving prepared as directed, nothing added. A healthy breakfast or not?
Asked by Mike - Thu Nov 1 08:35:54 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Yes, this is a very healthy breakfast. Oatmeal is very filling and will make you feel fuller longer, therefore eating less. One way to make this a little healthier is to either eat a piece of fruit, or add some fruit to your oatmeal. Like a cup of cut of strawberries or a banana.

Question About Quaker Oats Oatmeal....is it good 2 eat after so long?
Q. Its in a tin...i don't know when this lady bought it. I cooked it today in the stove...it came out fine. When i ate it it had a bitter taste. I looked at the expiration date and its 12/08/2012. No bugs inside the tin. I left the tin opened aftter this to give it fresh air lol. I did not feel sick or anything after eating it. My question is ...is there something i can put inside the tin to bring back freshness and that will scare the bitterness. Thanks...hope you got my question...sorry if i didn't get to the point
Asked by bhu - Thu May 8 17:19:19 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The bitterness is probably from oxidation of the oils in the oats, making them rancid. (yes, there is oil on oats.) I'm not sure there's anything you can do about it. Perhaps cover the bitterness up with sugar and butter and stuff - but then it's not too healthy. Oatmeal is pretty cheap. I'd throw it out and but new.

A. Which foods doesn't really matter when maintaining your weight.. It really depends on how many calories. The number of calories that you intake should equal with the amount burned. Then you'll maintain your weight. Find a daily calories intake calculator, and see how many calories help you maintain your weight. It doesn't matter what kind of food you eat as long as you burn all the calories. Just avoid fatty and sugary foods and you'll be fine. Make fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grain your friend. (-:
