Where can I find a great Cookies in a jar recipe?
Q. I'm considernig giving Cookies in a Jar as a Christmas gift and you know you put the dry ingredients in a jar and wrap with a bow. What would be the tastiest recipe for this? Sometimes, I've tried recipes in a jar that just didn't come out so good. What would you suggest? I don't want to just to the regular old Chocolate chip receipe from the back of a package. I'd like it to be special.

A. Giving cookies in a jar is a really good idea for Christmas, I do it all the time. Here's a couple really yummy ones everyone has enjoyed :) Oatmeal Raisin 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 cup packed brown sugar 1 cup flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 1/4 cup raisins 1 1/4 cup oats Instructions: 1. Combine flour, salt and baking soda - stir well. Place flour mixture in a clean mason jar. Pack down tight so everything will fit in the jar. (Use a spoon or a mallet.) Add other ingredients, one item at a time, packing each layer down. 2. Put the lid on the jar and tie a ribbon around the lid. You can add a personalized label, if you wish. As an added touch, tie a wooden spoon to the lid with a piece of ribbon. 3. Print out the… [cont.]

A gift that is handmade and from the heart is something much more preciou than a gift you might have just run in the store and grabbed. Homemade gifts always say, "I think alot of you and so I made you something extra special" that is the best you could ever do for friends and even family. A nice way to give the homemade gift is to even bake just an assortment of different simple cookies that everyone likes but doesn't have the time to make or just can't bake for some reason or another! A. Mixes in a jar are thoughtful and inexpensive gifts to give to anyone for any occasion. The idea is to layer dry ingredients of a cookie, cake, biscuit, muffin, beverage or other recipe decoratively in a jar and add directions of how to complete the recipe. The jar can be a mason jar or a recycled, clean mayonnaise or other large jar that has a lid and can then be decorated with fabric, ribbons, paint, etc. I have seen these jars of mixes sell in retail stores for around $8.00! Imagine the savings if you were to make your own! A few inexpensive ingredients like flour, brown sugar, chocolate chips and a jar don't cost very much! Gift recipients will love receiving a homemade mix from you so they can easily prepare a treat to enjoy and when… [cont.]

A. Tapanade is usually made of olives, garlic, sometimes roasted red peppers...all the ingredients are blended or whirled in a food processor till thick and "rustically chunky" then served room temperature and used as a spread on different types of breads and crackers...yours is made with Truffles, a VERY expensive type of mushroom...It's really not an "ingredient" per se, but more of an appetizer type of spread...I've even seen sun dried tomato tapanade at Trader Joes...Enjoy!!! A. Flavored sugar is a great 'gift jar' gift. I used a spice mill to grind dried lemon, orange, lime peel (separately) and added them to sugar with a drop of food coloring shaken in for effect. I also buy a bag or two of sugar every January and go to the whole foods store and buy vanilla beans (they are cheaper). I make a slit down the middle lengthwise (careful not to go all the way through to the other side) then I place a bunch of these beans in an airtight jar with the sugar and leave it alone until Christmas. Then I put it in jars and give out. The lime sugar and the vanilla sugar seem to be the most appreciated. Especially by tea drinkers and bakers. You can also take last years fruitcake (you know it lasts forever) and crumble… [cont.]

A. try peaches and strawberries together, with a little sugar sprinkled on them and a very small amount of vanilla extract (1 teaspoon of extract per 750ml bottle of vodka). let it sit for 2 weeks and then strain through a coffee filter to remove any pulp. the simplest and cheapest way is to pour a bag of Skittles into a 3/4 full bottle of vodka. let it soak for a week, shaking it a few times every day to stir things up. there will be some little pieces floating in it because the candies are coated in wax. its ok to drink them, but they look gross so it's best to strain through a coffee filter. i've been meaning to try "butter pecan" infusion, using a jar filled 1/3 of the way with pecans and a big pat of butter, then crushing the pecans… [cont.]

Carrot cake recipe made with jar baby food?
Q. I'm looking for a tried and true recipe for a carrot cake made with baby food jarred carrots, and crushed pineapple. Only recipes that you know and have baked please. Don't just search the internet for a recipe, I've already done that, and not many appeal to me. You use babyfood to make the cake really moist. It's just pureed carrots. You feed it to your child, and it isn't gross. The crushed pineapple is for texture. Anyway I found a recipe at cooks.com that I'm using. Thanks anyway.

A. Paula Deen has one with baby food in it on foodnetwork.com called Sweet Baby Jack cake or something. If you look under carrot cake it'll come up. I like her stuff, but I haven't made it because the idea of using baby food makes me want to barf; I like using fresh finely grated carrots. But there ya go anyway. It doesn't have the pineapple, but go ahead and add a cup or so. That's what I do and it can only make it better.

Q. Last Thanksgiving, my mother-in-law found a macaroni salad recipe off a box of macaroni and cheese and it was very simple. we lost it, but i do remerber it called for a sm. jar of pimentos. I think also some sugar, sm. white onion, mayo, and a little prepared mustard. If anyone out there has a mac. salad recipe similar to this please answer.

A. This is how I make it. 1 lb box of macaroni, cooked by directions on box, rinse in cold water, and drain 1 small jar of chopped pimentos, drained 1/4 cup of diced green bell pepper 1/4 cup of diced sweet onion 2 chopped hard boiled eggs 1/2 cup of diced celery 1/4-1/2 tsp of prepared mustard 1/4 tsp of sugar salt and pepper to taste I prefer to use Miracle Whip salad dressing, but have mixed M.W with Helman's mayo before. Mix ingredients and then add to macaroni. Add enough salad dressing, to coat all ingredients. If you use only mayonnaise, you may want to add just a tablespoon or two of milk to thin. Why does food say, secret family recipe then give ingrediants on the jar?
Q. I don't get it, when i buy some sauce or jar of something, it sometimes says well kept family secret recipe, you've seen them i bet. but then gives the ingredients on the back gram by gram, whats the contradiction all about.

A. That's just advertising hype...to make you think that it's an old family secret recipe...started with the slogan..."Ancient Chinese Secret", years ago!
