Where can I find a great Cookies in a jar recipe?
Q. I'm considernig giving Cookies in a Jar as a Christmas gift and you know you put the dry ingredients in a jar and wrap with a bow. What would be the tastiest recipe for this? Sometimes, I've tried recipes in a jar that just didn't come out so good. What would you suggest? I don't want to just to the regular old Chocolate chip receipe from the back of a package. I'd like it to be special.

A. Flavored sugar is a great 'gift jar' gift. I used a spice mill to grind dried lemon, orange, lime peel (separately) and added them to sugar with a drop of food coloring shaken in for effect. I also buy a bag or two of sugar every January and go to the whole foods store and buy vanilla beans (they are cheaper). I make a slit down the middle lengthwise (careful not to go all the way through to the other side) then I place a bunch of these beans in an airtight jar with the sugar and leave it alone until Christmas. Then I put it in jars and give out. The lime sugar and the vanilla sugar seem to be the most appreciated. Especially by tea drinkers and bakers. You can also take last years fruitcake (you know it lasts forever) and crumble… [cont.]

I have minced garlic in a jar and my recipe calls for 6 cloves of garlic minced?
Q. so how much do I need to take out of the jar for the recipe?
Asked by some B - Mon Mar 17 12:41:43 2008 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Get rid of that jarred garlic. It'll ruin the dish your making. Its aweful! Always use fresh garlic ( very important). As for the other part, garlic cloves are all different sizes and 6 cloves sounds like you making a huge dish for alot of people. If their big cloves, cut it to 3 cloves. Also remember that the finer you chop it, the stronger it gets. To bad you didnt furnish more info on what you were making and for how many people. But 3 nice size cloves chopped finely seems the safest bet. Don't forget to toss the jar. Good luck!

Carrot cake recipe made with jar baby food?
Q. I'm looking for a tried and true recipe for a carrot cake made with baby food jarred carrots, and crushed pineapple. Only recipes that you know and have baked please. Don't just search the internet for a recipe, I've already done that, and not many appeal to me. You use babyfood to make the cake really moist. It's just pureed carrots. You feed it to your child, and it isn't gross. The crushed pineapple is for texture. Anyway I found a recipe at cooks.com that I'm using. Thanks anyway.

A. Paula Deen has one with baby food in it on foodnetwork.com called Sweet Baby Jack cake or something. If you look under carrot cake it'll come up. I like her stuff, but I haven't made it because the idea of using baby food makes me want to barf; I like using fresh finely grated carrots. But there ya go anyway. It doesn't have the pineapple, but go ahead and add a cup or so. That's what I do and it can only make it better.

Do recipes in a mason jar make good presents in my situation?
Q. I'm from NJ and my husband is from NC. If I make "recipes in a jar" as Christmas presents for some of his family (aunts and grand-moms and such) will it look like i'm trying too hard or like i'm being thoughtful? and do craft stores sell mason jars? I should add that we live about 8 hours away from his family so doing anything "fresh" is really hard due to distance (although homemade treats sounds like a good idea -- i'm not very good at baking and cooking)

A. What I would suggest is if you send a "Cookies in a Jar" gift also make the cookie that will result from the recipe. So the recipient will have a box of good cookies to enjoy when the receive the gift and they will be able to make the cookie at a later date. They will then know what the cookie tastes like and will be thinking of you when they are making the item. I think it is a lovely gift. Walmart sells Mason or Ball Jars. Some hardware stores also sell them. Used jars are ok just get new lids, both lids and rings are easy to come by. Make sure you get the right size for the recipe. If you can not find the jars you can use the reusable rubbermaid storage containers, I think they have a type that has a twist on lid.

A. Yes.. you can use the jar Sago pearls.. so it's easy.. If you use dried Sago pearls.. you have to soak them in cold water for 5-6 hour. I'll have Taro ( kind like yam) in my Sai Mai Lo. Here my recipes Taro - 250 grams Sago pearls - 100grams (dried) Rock sugar - 175 grams Coconut Milk - 1 can Water 750ml -Soak the sago, Drain the pearls after soaking. -Peal the Taro and dice them . Stem the taro on high heat for 20 minutes -Bring the water and sugar to the boil until dissolve. - Add the sago and the Taro and stir until it boils again. -remove from the heat and pour in the coconut milk. Stir it well and serve. In your case.. I'll thing you can just ignore the mango. And replace it with what ever fruit you like.
