Q. Italy has many dialects but the main language is Standard Italian. 1) In which region/area was Standard Italian originally spoken? A. 1. The local dialect that was closest to Standard Italian is Tuscan (which, as you can guess, comes from the Toscana region). Nevertheless, the language has changed a great deal from its humble origins 2. Yes, most (if not all) Young Italians (myself included) speak "Standard" Italian as opposed to our local dialects. You will find people in cities like Bergamo who may still speak their (incomprehensible) dialects, but they are becoming few and far between 3. Standard Italian was the language of the Upper Classes and the Government for hundreds of years before unification. Despite this, the masses still spoke in their dialects. How do I create the italian dressing flavor without the oil?
Q. I have a great pasta salad recipe but I don't want to add the Italian dressing if possible because of the oil. Suggestions?

A. You could get one of those Italian seasoning packets to make your own dressing. The Zesty Italian is very good. As for the oil goes if you buy one of the packets you could omit the oil but it would be pretty watery, or you could use olive oil, which is much much better than the others. You could just sprinkle the seasoning over the salad also! When making your own there's probably only about a 1/4cup of oil in the recipe. It calls for water, vinegar and oil. Hope this helps!
