What dessert wines or liquors pair well with anything chocolate?

A. Eeew, asti spumante is tooo sweet and too grapey, it would cover up the taste of chocolate. If you are going for that, why not just go for champagne??? Moet Star is a reasonably priced one. I am not a big fan of beer with dessert, either. If you are going for something heavier, why not the classic...brandy or cognac??? Remy Martin Red I think is the more reasonably priced one but I am not sure about that. All are fine, cognacs are well controlled. If it has the title "cognac," you can rest assured that it comes from the Cognac region of France, and its quality controlled. Oakiness is the charm of cognac. However, if you find cognac a bit too oakey (I usually do...) ...then go for brandy or a fine bourbon, instead. A delicious and… [cont.]

What dessert should I make to go with this meal?
Q. I'm planning a small dinner party, and I have decided to make the following: baked lemon-garlic-pepper chicken risotto grilled asparagus. I'm not sure what to make for dessert though. I can't think of what would best go with the meal. Any suggestions?

A. Since the meal is quite light, I would stick with a light desert such as a fruit salad with whipped cream, or a panacotta (don't worry about the cream, it still comes out tasting very light) Good luck!

what is the difference in dessert wine and other wines?
Q. we have taylor port wine (or something like that) in our fridge, and it says its dessert wine. whats the difference in, uh not dessert wine, and that. is it harder to catch a buzz off of or something?
Asked by hannah! - Sat Mar 29 11:10:59 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Desert wines are sweet. What you have is a "fortified" desert wine, which means that brandy was added to stop fermentation before all of the sugar was converted to alcohol. Fortified wines are usually 20% alcohol or 40 proof. Other desert wines can be anywhere from 6.5% up to about 14%. There is no brandy added and the grapes that were used were extremely high in sugar. One of the most famous is Chateau d'Yquem. This is a Sauternes wine from France and is expensive. Some German wines are extremely good as well such as the Trockenbeerenauslese made from the Riesling grape which is also expensive. Eiswein is a wine made from grapes that are frozen then pressed to extract the concentrated juice. Regular table wines range in alcohol from 6.5% [cont.]

What dessert should bring we for thanksgiving?
Q. We are going to my uncle's ex-wife's parent's house for thanksgiving this year (we no longer talk to my uncle, only his ex-wife and 2 sons-my cousins). They are a large italian family. I want to bring some sort of dessert. So, what should we bring? The recipe does not have to be quick or easy- any level of difficulty is fine. I would prefer not to bring the traditional desserts, ie- pumpkin or apple pie. Thanks! and Happy Thanksgiving! Appatizers are also fine.

Does anyone know any dessert recipes that call for lime juice?
Q. I'm trying to use up some limes, they were on sale 10 for $1.00 so I have like 7 left over and I'd like to use them in some sort of dessert recipe. Preferably a cake recipe if you have one.

A. Lemon Lime Cake 1 (18.25 ounce) package lemon cake mix 1 (3 ounce) package instant lemon pudding mix 3/4 cup water 1/2 cup vegetable oil 4 eggs 1/2 to 1 teaspoon lemon extract 5 to 6 tablespoons key lime juice 1 1/2 cups confectioners sugar 3 tablespoons key lime juice Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease one 9x13 inch cake pan or one 10 inch bundt pan, or spray with Baker's Joy, which is my answer to most everything! In a large bowl stir together; lemon cake mix, lemon instant pudding, water, oil, eggs, lemon extract and 5 or 6 tablespoons key lime juice, mixing well. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes, or until cake tests done. Pour key lime glaze over cake while still warm. To make the glaze,… [cont.]

A. For the wine I would go with something French 2003, the Merlots are slightly sweeter than others so they are nice and mellow, the Cabernet's are usually pretty smooth too but with few sweet notes. Yes you can pick up a bottle at your local grocery for less than $15! I get them in Toledo OH at Krogers for $7-$8 a bottle. Robert Mondavi wines are excellent too. For dessert I love tiramisu and cheesecake but that might be too heavy a dessert after such a lovely heavy meal. My husband would be groaning if I fed him either after lasagna! (He's a fit kind of guy!) So Tiramisu if he's a big eater and something lighter like an Italian Ice, strawberries dipped in chocolate, or maybe poached pears if you've ever seen him leave food on his plate. [cont.]

Since I'm serving some savory treats at my preserving party, I also plan to offer one sweet treat. Not just any . dessert. , but a crumbly, fruity pastry that makes the most of last year's blueberry preserves: blueberry cookie bars.
