In the United States and Canada, a cookie is a small, flat-baked treat, containing milk, flour, eggs, and sugar, etc. In most English-speaking countries outside North America, the most common word for this is biscuit; in many regions both terms are used, while in others the two words have different meanings—a cookie is a plain bun in Scotland, while in the United States a biscuit is a kind of quick bread similar to a scone.

Any good cookie recipes that you have personally used?
Q. I have been badgered by my other half to bake cookies for so long now that I've broken and I will do it! I have everyday ingredients like butter, flour. I also have vanilla extract and chocolate chips. I'd like a vanilla or chocolate chip cookie recipe if you have a good one. Could you put them together?

I want to make a large heart-shaped cookie for my husband but I do not have a heart-shaped cookie pan?
Q. However, I DO have a heart shaped cake pan, Would I somehow be able to press a thin layer of the cookie batter into the cake ban and bake it into a large cookie? Do you think it will work?

A. This is an old standby trick from the 1950's, when decorated cakes made from cut-up round and square layers were popular. I'm modifying it to work for a cookie. Form the cookie dough into a large ball and roll it into a large circle. Cut half circles at an angle from either side of the larger one so that the bottom of the circle is now pointed. Place the half circles on top to form a heart, press the dough firmly together, and bake. Frost with white icing and sprinkle with pink-tinted coconut. It makes a very pretty cake, and it should make an equally pretty sugar or chocolate chip cookie.

How can I make chocolate chip cookie dough the right consistency to use cookie cutters on?
Q. My family keeps telling me that it's impossible for chocolate chip cookies to be cut into shapes because the dough isn't the right consistency. Does anyone have any recipes or tips for making chocolate chip cookie dough that IS able to be cut into shapes?

A. well, if you MUST ruin the chocolate chip cookie, then after you make the dough the normal consistency, then flatten it out and refrigerate it. You'll be able to use the cookie cutter then. But so what? Once it goes in the oven, it's going to melt and the cookies will come out round. I used to be a baker.
