Does anyone have a good hot cocoa recipe that uses regular cocoa mix?
Q. I have tons of hot cocoa mix and am getting bored with just plain Hot Chocolate all the time. No Marshmallos, I hate them.
Asked by ~ Chaya ~ - Sat Jan 27 12:37:56 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Why not make Moccha, by adding a spoon of coffee too? A few drops of Orange essence will make a scrummy Orange Chocolate drink. You could try the same thing with Pepermint oil. Puree a Banana and add to Chocolate. Add a cube of Fudge, stir till melted. Try a Toffee even. Swirl whipped cream over the top and sprinkle with chocolate vemichelli, cocoa powder, coffee powder or, spice.

what's healthier coffee creamer or hot cocoa mix?
Q. i mix my coffee w/ either hot cocoa mix or coffeemate, which is healthier? I know the best opition is neither, but I used to use splenda until my nutritionist told me to stay away from diet foods (long story) So, I was just wondering which would be better. I'm assuming the creamer because it would have less sugar carbs than reg. hot cocoa mix?

A. Soy milk has calcium and is a non-dairy product that keeps well and take a small amount in a plastic container to use as a creamer. They are lying about splenda it is made from sugar. But it takes out the harmful stuff. They have an unsweetnered variety of soy milk now that only has 80 calories per cup and is very creamy better than that blue water [skim milk] that has 80 calories per cup. my grocery store didn't stock it and I asked him about it so I wouldn't have to go out of town to get soy milk. With this number he was able to order it for me. 25293 60023 Silk Soymilk unsweetened cholesterol free with 7 grams of protein per cup. In coffee and cereal can't tell the difference.

I found some powdered cocoa mix in my refrigerator from last Christmas, is it still good?
Q. There's no date on it but it looks good, should I drink it?
Asked by Daisy Indigo - Fri Nov 16 23:41:09 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Since you stored it in the refrigerator, it should be okay. There is little in cocoa mix that can go bad and the fridge should have prevented that anyway. You may, however, want to taste a little of it first to make sure it didn't pick up any off flavors during its time in cold storage--onion or fish or several other flavors could really ruin it.

A. you can mix it in when you whip up whipped cream and top your ice cream with it. or you can mix it in with whipped cream or cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla and use it to frost chocolate cupcakes. mix with coffee as usual, let cool, put in blender with cream or scoop of ice cream and a few ice cubes, blend well, top with whipped cream and chocolate curls.you have a cold, mocha drink.(for this one you can add a shot of Kaluaha, amaretto, or bailies, grand mariner, or frangelico) for a grown-up version.

Inexpensive way to package gifts of hot cocoa mix? Bags? ?
Q. We would like to give hot cocoa mix as gifts to friends and neighbors. We don't have jars to put it in, and I'd rather not spend any more money than necessary. Can we put it in ziplock bags then wrap them in pretty wrap? Any other ideas? Do you have ideas to jazz up the mix itself? Thank you!!

A. How about going to the dollar store or local salvation army and getting mugs or the jars? Or check with one of your family members to see if they have extra. There is also this site called freecycle.org where you can sign up and request/post items that are no longer wanted or wanted. Put the cocoa mix in the ziploc bags along with instructions on how to make it. Here's the recipe I use during the holidays: Hot Cocoa Mix in a Jar Ingredients: 6 1/2 cups powdered milk 1 (5 ounce) package non-instant chocolate pudding mix 1 cup powdered chocolate drink mix 1/2 cup powdered non-dairy creamer 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Directions: In a large bowl, combine powdered milk, chocolate pudding mix,… [cont.]

Does hot cocoa mix ever go bad/expire?
Q. Does individually packaged hot cocoa powdered mix ever expire?
Asked by Strawz - Sun Feb 24 01:25:07 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It shouldn't go bad because all of the ingredients are dehydrated and mostly sugar anyway, but if it hasn't been in a sealed container or package or it has become wet or has been placed in a moist environment there is always the possibility that mould has developed or that it has attracted sugar-eating bugs, which may have left either droppings or eggs behind. I wouldn't suggest using it if the mix has been exposed for a long period of time or became wet at anytime (other than when mixing it obviously). Otherwise, it should be fine.

Muslims: Is Swiss Miss Milk Chocolate Cocoa Mix Halal or veggie? What about Kraft Whipped Cream Cheese Spread?
Q. Otherwise is it vegetarian as I am also vegetarian. Please if you can provide any links for me about halal/haram I'd appreciate it thanks. Vegetarian links would be appreciated as well...
Asked by Umm Qasim Fatimah - Sun Aug 5 13:03:21 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Halal is similar to Kosher. Unfortunately most companies do not get their food Halal cerified, but they are slowly changing. If the products you are asking about have a U or D on the front, they are Kosher and have no meat products in them. Most Muslims in the U.S. use the Kosher criteria, since companies do not Halal certify yet. Check out the website for Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America. There are so many Veggie websites, I don't know where to begin. Try Vegetarian Times, which is also a magazine.

Is hot cocoa mix good with coffee?
Q. At work they only buy powdered coffee creamer, and honestly I find it disgusting. But I always am so exhausted in the morning, so I force myself to drink it (because I dislike my coffee without creamer) But I did notice a giant case of "swiss miss" hot cocoa. So let me know if you have tried it, if you have-- how much of it should be used, and should you add sugar- or anything else? THANKS!

A. start with 1/4 cup and add until it looks dark enough for you. You will have to add some sugar since cocoa powder is bitter. Probably 1-2 TBS of sugar per 1/4 cup of cocoa.

A. I use it. If you are baking a cake, you just add a bit more of the cocoa mix and cut back on the sugar and vanilla extract in the recipe. You can add a tiny bit of hot water to it to make a drizzle for ice cream, cake or brownies. My G Hot Chocolate contains no milk. Not sure which one you have. Sorry no recipes. Update: Contacted Ghirardelli. They don't have recipes using the hot chocolate mix because they haven't tested any yet. Did notice other great recipes there. :)

A. Proportion is 1 cocoa to 3 sugar. Depending on how much you want to make, you can measure 1 cup of cocoa and 3 cups of sugar into your gift jar, or 1/2 cup cocoa and 1-1/2 cups sugar. Give a generous sprinkling of salt, mix all together. Instructions: Use 4 teaspoons of mix to 1 cup of milk.
