A. You are a smart youngin'. I'm not even begginning to think about Christmas yet. But I should be. I think the fuzzy sock idea sounds fun.. sounds cheap yet something they can use. Also, maybe throw in some fun stuff like little games, homemade cd's, and other homemade gifts. Homemade gifts are from the heart, and even cheaper.. so anyways but you got plenty of time to think on it.. good luck just get them something you know they will love.

How much should I spend on Christmas gifts for close friends?
Q. Typically I would spend between $50-100 on my closest friends for Christmas, but I ve noticed every year that my friends would spend between $5-25 for my gifts. Job wise; I don t make a whole lot and probably earn the least amount of money out of all my friends. I want to be generous for Christmas gifts, but am I being too generous? Going forward, Should I adjust my spending to $5-25?
Asked by me8 - Tue Dec 29 12:32:56 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Generally speaking, I try not to look at price when buying gifts for my two closest friends. I know one of them definitely never looks at price, and the other will try to match my gift value. But I know they both don't mind if we look for cheaper prices for the same item. I usually feel guilty if my friends buy me something expensive, so I'll try to match them. I guess all I can recommend is don't go intentionally looking for expensive gifts. Just like someone else said, if you see something one of them'll like, just buy that. You don't have to flourish it up and make it an expensive gift. Also, they may not realize how much you're putting into their gifts. And do you just feel that the gifts you're getting are cheap? Or do you know?… [cont.]

A. You can buy small tins or plates, then make cookies and candies to put on them. There are hundreds of recipes that you can find online that are easy to make and don't cost a bunch Wrap them nicely with colored cellophane and a bow.

How do you keep cookies soft and fresh for Christmas Gifts?
Q. I am making cookies for Christmas gifts, most will have to be shipped out of state and overseas. There will be an assortment from sugar cookies to drop and chocolate chip cookies. I have heard putting a piece of bread in the tin will help- but that seems a bit tacky for the purpose of presentation. Some of the cookies will be sent overseas and may not be to their location for at least two weeks. Any way to keep them soft and fresh- maybe just by putting in tins or cellophane bags? Or, should I make sure that they are packaged while warm, or add something to the ingredients? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Would you pay someone to wrap your Christmas gifts for you?
Q. I'm thinking of starting a little business where I wrap people's Christmas gifts (for a fee, of course). Do you think many people would pay for that?

A. I have paid. I actually had a wonderful wrapper, she stored gifts, for a nominal fee then made herself available for pick up of gifts up to Noon on Christmas Eve. My gifts were wrapped and prying eyes could not find them. I worked FT and was dealing with a teenager and a baby, the gift wrapper was my Christmas gift to myself.

All the charities with shops appeal for unwanted gifts to be donated after Xmas. Very few charity shops can take electrical goods. Best to check first. How much do you spend for Christmas gifts?
Q. My husband and I have a budget of two hundred dollars. Our children are older so toys are out and we stopped giving gifts to relatives a long time ago, we never know what they want. Our parents get together "mine and his"every year, send the children a gift card with our Christmas card and go out to eat and see a movie.

A. Tough question, but how much will people spend on you should be the real question! I spend what I can afford at the time, sometimes its more sometimes less, this year due to circumstances probably a litle less, not through choice. I'm keeping an eye on all great deals and sales through iStorez so that I can cut down expenses as much as possible -

A. I'm 14 but maybe I can help. For the 9 year old how about a Bratz doll? I always liked playing with those. They run from about 15-20$. Or something Hannah Montana like her new Cd. For the 12 year old what about some jewelry or a movie? I was picky at this age so maybe a GiftCard to the mall, or an Itunes giftcard if she has an Ipod. If you really aren't sure what to get them, just get them a Giftcard to the mall, I always loved getting that.

What are ways one can save money when shopping for Christmas Gifts?
Q. Late November and the month of December is a busy time for retailers nationwide in the United States as Americans purchase Christmas gifts from both family and friends. How old is too old to expect Christmas gifts but not give any in return?
Q. All these teenagers conjuring up extensive lists of namebrand items and complaining when their Christmas loot didn't include every last thing they lusted for - it got me thinking. I know parents and immediate family members don't expect a gift when kids are young, but at what point is it just considered immature and thoughtless to expect hefty gifts without giving to others in return? Merry Christmas, everyone!! I didn't mean every last teenager acts this way, just to clarify.

What are typical Christmas gifts given to a child in Mexico?
Q. I am teaching a group of students a lesson on Christmas in Mexico. From what I have read about Christmas in Mexico, Christmas is still really celebrating Christ's birth! I love that! In the United States, so much emphasis is given to gift-giving from Santa. Do children in Mexico expect lots of gifts like in the USA? Are the gifts big and elaborate or small and meaningful?

A. I have family that lives in Mexico...Actually, the schools there give out a lunch sack filled with apples, oranges, and nuts to each child. Also, when I moved to texas 5 miles away from the Mexico border I was in High School and our school in the United States did this same thing...I guess fruit baskets are a common gift in Mexico.

What is a decent amount to spend on Christmas gifts?
Q. My husband and I are not seeing eye to eye on this. He always says I spend way to much on our kids. So this year he is wanting me only to spend $500 on each of our kids. One is 15 the other is 10. I really feel they will be disappointed and I could not take that not on Christmas. The $500 is to be on gifts from us and Santa. What is the average amount people spend? If they get one big thing I couldnt get them anything else.

A. I had four children. We spent less than two hundred dollars each on them. Mine are adults now. I get them small token gifts like candle sets or desk sets and give them fifty dollars each. I still buy clothes for my two youngest ones who are 18 and 21 too. They are young enough to still need financial support from Mom and Dad. Last year I got each child a new robe, the year before was freshwater pearls for the girls and pocket watches for the guys. I buy for my Daughters-in-Law too. I would not spend five hundred dollars per child or more.
