In Western culture dessert is a course that typically comes at the end of a meal, usually consisting of sweet food. The word comes from the French language as dessert and this from Old French desservir, "to clear the table" and "to serve." Common desserts include cakes, cookies, pastries, ice cream, and candies. Fruit may also be eaten with the dessert. In Russia, breakfast foods such as Bliny, Oladi, and Syrniki served with honey and jam are also popular as desserts. The word dessert is most commonly used for this course in U.S., Canada, Australia, and Ireland, while sweet, pudding or afters may be alternative terms used in the UK and some other Commonwealth countries, including India. In England, the term pudding might be used among the Upper and Upper-middle classes, with dessert only used if the course consists of fruit. Desserts are often eaten with a dessert spoon, intermediate in size between a teaspoon and a tablespoon. Common desserts include pie, ice cream, cheesecake, pudding, cookies, and other sweets. Fruit is also commonly consumed as a dessert. From Wikipedia under the

Fresh cut fruits (nothing canned or in syrup) with dip. For dip, use fat-free flavoured yogurt. Or use plain fat-free yogurt with a bit of flavouring, such as honey, cinnamon, powdered sugar, or even maple syrup. My sister uses 'no sugar added' pancake syrup to flavour her yogurt. I think it tastes a little odd, but she likes it a lot. If you are okay with eating gelatin, there's Jello. It is fat-free, and you can also get sugar-free kinds (with aspartame, I think) too. You can also use gelatin to make almond gelatin, a Philippino dessert: Note that what that recipe means by "four pack" is 4 envelopes of gelatin (I used Knox brand and Splenda instead of sugar). You can add fruits to them too, but the same kinds of fruits that don't… [cont.] Answered by methroach - Fri Mar 7 21:45:44 2008 Any good website for desserts recipes? Q. I would try this except with lasagna noodles Cinnamon Ricotta Sorbet Simple Syrup * 1 cup water * 1 cup sugar * 1 1/2 tablespoons light corn syrup * 2 cinnamon sticks Ricotta Sorbet * 12 ounces ricotta (1 1/2 cups) * 1/2 cup heavy cream * 1 1/3 cups Simple Syrup For the Simple Syrup, combine the water, sugar, and light corn syrup in a saucepan. Stir the mixture and place over medium heat. Bring to a boil, lower the heat, and stir until the sugar dissolves completely. Remove from heat and add the cinnamon sticks to the syrup.
